![]() ![]() Verne's name isn't mentioned anywhere on the book, which is a disappointment. ![]() (The illustrator isn't credited, though they look like cartoon stills.) This one is based on a short-lived cartoon series from 1967 (that I don't remember at all), which was in turn based on the 1959 Pat Boone/James Mason movie that was inspired by Jules Verne's 1864 novel. The later novels had black-and-white illustrations, though this and all of the early ones I've seen are in color. The typical ones were about four inches wide, five inches tall, and an inch thick, with the prose on one page and an illustration on each facing page. ![]() I remember enjoying titles as a child that featured Tarzan, The Fantastic Four, The Man from U.N.C.L.E., and many more, and then reading later ones to my own kids with Spider-Man, Batman, Disney characters, etc. The Whitman Big Little Books appeared from 1932 into the early 1970s, and they were a terrific inducement for children to read books, as most of them were based on characters from popular comic strips and books, radio and television series, cartoons and movies, etc. ![]()
