She has also written an excellent biography of Diana Mitford, second wife of Oswald Mosley, and another of Edith, Marchioness of Londonderry. It was packed with juicy social detail of the era, and was a fabulous read. One of the girls married Oswald Mosley, and all were glamorous, rich and wilful. My introduction to her work was her 2000 book The Viceroy’s Daughters: The Lives of the Curzon Sisters about the lives of the three daughters of Lord Curzon, Viceroy of India, and his American wife Mary. She was born in 1927, so I fear we can’t expect too many more books from her. John would send letters to his beloved posing questions regarding the political contentions in the year 1774. The Adams began writing letters to each other when John went to Philadelphia. Their preferred topics ranged from politics, economics, health, and even military strategies. The letters, however, were not direct correspondence to each other due to the limitations of travel. The Adams constantly wrote each other letters when apart sometimes more than five letters a day. Adams was fond of his beloved wife who he referred to as Portia.
